Renown’s Inventory Replenishment module for Dynamics SL is a simple and efficient tool for reviewing Inventory balances and generating Purchase Orders to replenish warehouse stock. Many Inventory Replenishment solutions use complex algorithms which are often overly reliant on accurate and regular maintenance of Inventory master records. Inventory maintenance is commonly performed infrequently, and/or inaccurately causing replenishment recommendations to be unreliable. Due to a lack of a full understanding of the rather complex algorithms and a lack of confidence on the Inventory data, Warehouse Managers begin to doubt the recommended quantities that the replenishment solution generates.
This is compounded by the fact the replenishment recommendation is presented as a number on its own with little or no supporting data. The data used to calculate the inventory replenishment quantity is not provided and warehouse managers need to take a leap of faith that the generated value is accurate. For most small to medium enterprises this inaccuracy can be too costly.
The Microsoft Dynamics SL Inventory Replenishment module can suffer from the above weaknesses. Some of the calculation models are very interesting, but they are complex. The Replenishment quantity is presented without supporting data and requires full faith that the Inventory records have been maintained accurately. For many of the models offered, the underlying data such as landing costs, packaging sizes, warehousing costs, minimums and maximums changes frequently and Inventory Items are not updated accordingly. This makes generating accurate inventory replenishment values very difficult. Maintaining the Inventory data to a satisfactory level can be time consuming and costly.

Renown’s Inventory Replenishment module provides two alternate approaches.
- The first generates recommended replenishment quantities based on simple calculation models; min/max and re-order point, replenish last period's sales or modelling on recent and last year’s sales performance. There are also provisions to use your own custom algorithm to generate an inventory replenishment recommendation.
- The Second model relies on Sales Representatives manually forecasting Inventory Item sales for the coming replenishment period. The replenishment recommendation is then generated to meet forecasted demand plus a level of buffer stock.
A big difference to other Replenishment tools is that Renown’s Replenishment module displays all supporting data to the replenishment officer so that they can review the reasonableness of the replenishment recommendation prior to purchasing the inventory.
Each replenishment line provides all the supporting data for Inventory Item including; inventory site balances, average sales for the replenishment period, minimum and maximum values, number of months carrying quantity and others. It is possible to add custom fields to the replenishment grid displaying specific data key any unique purchasing decision.
A graphical screen is provided to enable warehouse or sales managers the ability to review historical sales for any item and where applicable to adjust min/max values or sales forecasts. This is a simple and efficient tool for maintaining replenishment data in a visually informative screen.
